Associate Engineer

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 9th largest electric cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Engineer. Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform professional engineering service in the area of system planning, transmission, substations and distribution design. Primary responsibilities include computation, estimating, reports, surveys, inventory, specifications, bid analysis and other engineering functions.

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Engineering Design. Responsible for computation, estimating, reports, surveys, inventory, specification, bid analysis and similar engineering details. Complete projects that are in a particular field. Handles particular phases of multi field projects.
  • Construction Design. Assume responsibility  for  construction  design  in  the particular engineering field.
  • Communication.  Deal directly with supervisory personnel and manufacturers’ representatives as directed.
  • Supervision as Required.  Schedule, coordinate   and   supervise  field  projects.  Provide direction to other Engineering personnel as required.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

This position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in electrical, mechanical, industrial, civil, chemical, nuclear or computer science fields plus one and one half (1 ½ ) years’ experience as either an Engineer-In-Training or a Field Engineer. Equivalent experience outside of Clay Electric may substitute on a year for year basis for the required experience.

Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

This position requires the knowledge to deal with the general public, utilities, contractors, consulting engineers, industrial representatives, and governmental agencies involving electric utility design, plans and specifications.

This position requires the ability to read circuit diagrams and all maps concerning the electric system. This position requires the ability to read all engineering publications and to attend meetings to keep abreast of engineering and technological changes. This position requires the ability to design, prepare plans and specifications. This position requires the ability to read and comprehend electrical schematics, logic diagrams and control diagrams.

The physical demands of this position require exposure to adverse elements and the normal hazards associated with working in the field such as opening gates, walking over rough terrain, heavy woods and brush, bad dogs and climbing fences.

Part-time Human Resources Specialist

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 9th largest electric cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time Human Resources Specialist.  Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

Individuals in this position perform administrative and technical support involving coordination, development and reporting of federally mandated human resource programs and as a liaison with employee benefits and payroll functions.  Work is performed independently under the general supervision of The Human Resources Generalist.

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Liaison.  Liaison with Payroll and Information and Communication Technology Departments to coordinate input to the Payroll/Personnel System so that changes to the system are agreed upon and do not adversely affect the functioning of either department.  Processes and prepares for input of all personnel/payroll changes and ensures quality control.
  • Employment Applications. Receives and processes applications for employment. Pre-screens applicants to confirm information on applications and obtains additional information, if required. Administers pre-employment tests, as required. Responsible for pre-employment processing including reference checks, pre-employment physicals and new employee orientation.
  • Job Postings. Types and posts job opportunity announcements for openings within the Cooperative and recruitment ads, if required. Responds to inquiries about openings and does initial review of applicants for employment or transfer to ensure they meet minimum requirements stated in position classification guide.
  • Employee Career ManagementDistributes, collects and processes Employee Career Management discussion forms and/or performance appraisals.
  • Administrative and Technical SupportAssists Human Resources Generalist with conducting wage and salary surveys, Equal Employment Opportunity and/or Affirmative Action plans, and collecting, analyzing and preparing occupational information for the Chief Human Resource Officer.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

High school education or G.E.D. certificate and five years of experience in human resources or a related field. 

Additional education consisting of coursework related to Human Resources Management, Organizational Management or Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources may be substituted for up to four years of the required experience.

GIS-CAD Technician

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 9th largest electric cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of GIS/CAD Technician. Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform basic mapping, drafting and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) functions. This work is associated to the development and management of maps and electrical drawings for use in system planning, transmission, substations and distribution design. Primary responsibilities include mapping and attribution of electrical equipment as well as AutoCAD work in support of engineering drawings. Additionally, these individuals will assist with in-field reviews and verification of the cooperative’s mapping data as well as other assigned routine work associated with beginning level drafting.

Essential Job Functions include:

  • GIS. Perform beginning level GIS mapping, attributing, and editing. Import and export features into the cooperative’s electrical mapping system. Advance in the utilization and in knowledge of all GIS systems and programs. Acquire knowledge of GIS terminology and methods to create an accurate and productive mapping product through on the job training and available classes.
  • CAD. Produce basic level CAD drawings. Import and export CAD features into and out of the cooperative’s GIS with a focus on coordinate geometry accuracy. Acquire knowledge of CAD terminology and methods to create an accurate and productive mapping product through on the job training and available classes.
  • Operational. Review and submit district as-built construction jobs to the GIS accurately and timely, verifying network model connectivity and correcting errors. Extract location information and attribution data from engineering drawings to add and make edits to the cooperative’s GIS. Acquire knowledge of electrical terminology and methods to create an accurate and productive mapping product, through on the job training and available classes.
  • Office/Field. Operate all office equipment including computers, printers, and large format plotters. Operate mapping grade GPS equipment and associated programs.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

This position requires a high school education or a State of Florida GED certificate and certification in ARC/GIS or AutoCad. One year of experience may substitute for the required certification. Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Apprentice Meter Technician

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 9th largest electric cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Apprentice Meter Technician.  Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform basic technical work required in connection with the installation, maintenance, operation, testing and service of all types of electric meters and other related equipment. Primary responsibility includes assisting and installing, testing, repairing, calibrating and performing maintenance on electric meters and related equipment.

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Meters & Power Quality. Assist in installing, testing, repairing, calibrating and performing maintenance on all types of electric meters and other related equipment. Assist in installing recording instruments for power quality investigations and the submittal process to engineering.
  • Meter/AMI Software & Tools. Be proficient in the use of laptop and personal computers. Gain a working knowledge of MV90 software, AMI meter testing tools and software, and become familiar with manufacturers’ software for programming of solid state meters.
  • Records & Reports. Submit and record material and retirement information in accordance with established procedures, to include changeouts for load increases and defective material or equipment. Assist in coordinating planned outages with members and district offices for metering equipment changeouts and maintenance projects. Assist in maintaining the necessary records and periodic reports required for proper control of all electric meters and related equipment maintenance programs.
  • Tools and Equipment. Be familiar with the proper operation and safe use of all tools and work equipment including derrick trucks, aerial lift trucks, forklifts, and other types of equipment used in the performance of their job duties. Be responsible for test equipment used on all electric meters and other test equipment, to include metering equipment at member level and in substations.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

This position requires a two (2) year Associate of Science degree in electronics from an accredited college or university with course work in microprocessor based systems, or equivalent training from a technical institution. This position requires two (2) years of experience in a closely related field. Additional related experience may be substituted for the educational requirements on a year for year basis. Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Operations Engineer in Training

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 9th largest electric cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Operations Engineer In Training. Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class are assigned entry-level professional and technical work in the field of engineering associated with operational engineering functions. Primary responsibilities include minor project engineering and/or portions of major projects and assisting and developing particular phases of major projects in both systems and operations fields and providing technical support to all operation’s divisions.

Responsibilities may also include performing highly complex technical assignments, making and checking engineering computations, conducting studies resulting in estimates and surveys which will result in statistical reports included in the design of project specifications and problem solving solutions in all areas of operations.

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Technical Duties. Perform engineering computations and studies, make estimates, surveys, inventories, measurements, and similar work. Prepare statistics, reports, and minor design and project specifications.
  • Planning/Reports/Database Management. Advise and assist the Supervisor in planning, developing and implementing realistic and effective programs, budgets, and practices in the functional areas assigned to the division.  Provide reports and information regarding progress and developments so that the Supervisor may effectively evaluate results. Assist in the design and update of programs and records for new and existing computer systems as needed. Learn the process of providing Power Cost Estimates.
  • Technical Assistance. Learn the operation, technology, and software used by the divisions of Operations, especially the Meter Division (MV90 software and meter testing software and equipment), Electronics Division (Master station, RTUs, SEL equipment, network equipment and operation), Control Center (SCADA equipment, software and operation), and Facility Maintenance (Access control, fire and security monitoring, maintenance tracking software, general duties and responsibilities).
  • Project Duties. Handle minor project engineering and/or portions of major projects and assisting in developing particular phases of major projects. Contact manufacturers’ representatives and assume minor supervisory responsibility for construction projects in the field as directed.

This position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in electrical, mechanical, industrial, civil, chemical or nuclear. Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Internal Auditor

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 9th largest electric cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Internal Auditor.  Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

This position requires graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Auditing, or Information Systems.  Professional certification related to audit, such as Certification as an Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Internal Auditor (CIA) or Public Accountant (CPA) is also required and must be maintained current through continuing professional development. Five (5) years of related experience, two years of which must have been as an Internal Auditor is also required.

Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required for this position include:

Must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; the ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written formats; a working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and procedures; the ability to effectively plan, organize, prioritize and complete work assignments; experience using MS Office products; and the ability to query databases, extract data and develop analytical worksheets using SQL, IBM Query, MS Excel and/or other computer-assisted auditing tools.

Lineman

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 9th largest cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lineman in the following areas: Lake City District, Gainesville District, Palatka District, Orange Park District, and Salt Springs District. Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform the most advanced and skilled work required in connection with the construction, maintenance, operations and service of transmission, overhead and underground distribution lines, protective equipment, substations and related equipment owned and operated by the Cooperative.

Essential job functions include:

  • Construction and Maintenance of Power Lines. Install, remove, inspect and maintain both overhead and underground lines and equipment.
  • Switching Operations.  Perform switching operations on energized and de-energized lines and equipment, utilizing the Electric Systems Control Manual, UAI system and all safety precautions.
  • Troubleshooting and Outage Restoration.  Working independently or with others, systematically perform all duties associated with troubleshooting lines and equipment to restore electric service.
  • Operation of Equipment.  Operate construction equipment such as line truck, bucket truck, trenchers and other equipment as required. Comply with all traffic laws and related safety rules and safe work practices.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

This position requires a high school certificate or State of Florida GED passing grade plus additional training equivalent to Clay Electric's Lineman Development Training Program and four (4) years of experience in an electric distribution utility, preferably through the progression of Apprentice line work. This position also requires a valid Florida Class A commercial driver's license or a Florida Class A restricted commercial driver's license.
